Why Dekh Bhai Dekh was such a huge hit?

Dekh Bhai Dekh was a hindi TV serial which everyone of us watched inevitably in the 90's. The old cute grandfather type figure, the relatable funny uncle in Shekhar Suman, the serious but sometimes caught inside aunty in Farida Jalal.

Why was Dekh Bhai Dekh such a huge success?
First,Dekh Bhai Dekh came up in early 90's when most of the Indian population(read about 90% of population who had TV then) were stuck up to the same old class of serials.Sony,Zee TV were starting and it was a best scene for such a story to come up. The media on TV was still family oriented(and it continued to be so until Ekta Kapoor came up with her ear-eating nonsense on soaps).
Everyone could relate so much to each and every character in the serial. There's one adorable sweet hungry diabetic grandfather,a loving grandmother who participates in the fun with the kids,a sensible uncle with his eye over what is happening in the house, with a funny wife looking into the small details of her house,a Super witty uncle with a somewhat stupid wife,a young boy looking into the west, having a peeky girlfriend, a cute college girl being hit by only one boy in her class! :P A young boy and his young sister,a comic servant who is sort of part of the family, and a random short heighted character who does stupid dances everytime her enters the house. And how can one forget the utterly weird friend of Sanju, the one who roams semi-nude in his friend's house. Perhaps the story and cast to which everyone can relate to. A person to look to within every age bracket of 10 years.

It was a time when families were increasingly going nuclear when our parents were brought in a joint setup. We all knew the love which encompasses a family which lives together, eats together, travels together. The thing in which the show succeeded was that it only exposed the good part about living in such a setup, successfully shadowing the other facts. So,it was a sureshot win win situation for them. Maybe the writers did not think so much when making the show, but it holds so much sense now. A show which holds really good memories for me. A childhood worth remembering. :-)

P.S. Shekhar Suman- You were awesome! :D

Why are we Indians so hated all over the world?

Well,I shall begin with a much needed reply.Sorry to those who don't agree with me.This ain't for me and being a personal blog,I advise you to rather close this tab and move to something else. For other interested readers,Yes,we Indians are hated all over the world.

I begin with the news headlines I read in today's newspaper.India is the unsafest of all places for women among all the countries of the world. And it doesn't come as a surprise to me either.Look at Delhi, the so-called rape capital of India.Boss, its not possible for a sane woman in her fertile years(even leave this question aside, there are cases of stuff on much older women or rather children below 5 years of age) to move out of her home after 7 PM in Delhi. Leave aside the areas like Gurgaon which people want to leave after 5(I know this from my friends in Delhi).

All over the world,Indian men are looked upon as someone who are so experienced at groping and stuff. Indeed,we have the best mathematical minds, with a low input cost(and that is the reason we are shitted upon by cheap outsourced labor from overseas). Again, boss we are a country of 130crore people in a world population of 7.5 billion or so. So,we are practically every 6th person you tend to brush by all over the globe(disregarding the high probability of being in extremely congested areas like the Indian subcontinent itself). :P

Then there are our neighbors who constantly claim for being considered as Indians all over the world!! Be it Pakistanis, Sri Lankans, Nepalese or the Bangladeshis. Most of the people from these countries living overseas spend most of their times explaining to people how Nepal is not a part of India or rather China itself. We have the best mathematical minds, blame or thank the job-oriented and result-focused education we got in school and college. As they say it,you work not for yourself or your family, but that stupid relative/uncle of yours whom you don't give a shit about. Atleast, this helped us put so many people in Microsoft/Google (name any damn company in the world, dude!) . And this has again caused the tails wagging,Indians first of all immigrate and then they are willingly able to take up foreign jobs as well. Its like hitting straight in the balls. We get hated again. This frustration comes out in the form of the way we eat. Sir,you have your mannerisms. We have ours. Bear with it. We do that bearing part too.

Its the Indians which again deserve the image we have. We are idiots in the sense that we follow any damn product with a foreign name/supporter/promoter associated with it. I know this from the start-up ecosystem. We flock to the product demos with that 'firangi' bandi/banda (foreign woman/man endorsing the product) while the Indian counterpart will be biting the dust because he speaks in the accent we are familiar with!! Bullshit!

Lets let go of this putting up of foreign culture on a pedestal even without doing a background check on its validity/utility. Maybe those guys were dumb too like we are in some aspects.Even you agree,no one is perfect. No damn person, culture is. Lets stop judging others and do our part.Simply,do our part.Do our karma as we Indians like to say! :-)
